Paints with words on the heart's canvas; Encourages the soul; Tenders a fragment from the past -- a prophecy for the future. Revives a present that yearns for hope.
Poetry speaks to us in a more visceral way than prose. I have a bookshelf full of poetry. Among my favorites are Longfellow, Thomas Bailey Aldrich and Ted Kooser.
Longfellow is one of my favorites. I still can quote a fair amount of The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. :) Frost and Dickinson are favorites, too. Ruth Graham Bell’s poems have also really spoken to my heart.
Thank you, Ike! You’ve seen more in the poem than I did in writing it. The double meaning weren’t intentional. At least I don’t think they were. I wrote the poem quite a few years ago and just ran across it again last night. I really like your reading of the poem.

I love this. I particularly love the double meaning of "tenders" and "present." I also love the way the poem treats time. Thank you, Linda.
